Monday, November 3rd 2003 Snow has finally melted after a week of rain! Not many opportunities to go work outside since last Wednesday October 29th. It was a superb day: we had a picnic and continued stacking logs. Alain tried out the new chain-saw after finding 2 huge white spruce toppled by the wind. That's 4 more 24' beams, we only need to find a way to get them out of there With the measurements we took, we were able to determine that the slope is on average 25°. After drawing a few plans, we find it's a bit steep for what we want. The solution seems to be to bring the house right down to the edge of the road that will actually be the driveway by then. The view is less spectacular but it will likely be cheaper to dig. By the way, we have to ask for an estimate of the excavation costs soon.
We scribbled quite a bit and have a good basic idea of the house plan we would like. We met with Vouli, an architect friend, and showed her our project so far. She's very enthusiastic and is willing to look more closely into it. The week of rain gave me time to begin sorting and organising all the information in paper and electronic form I've assembled to have it in a more digestible format for her. It'll also help us clarifying things, I had not realized how much info I had gathered in the last few years.
