Done with the walls; to the roof now!
We completed the tire walls for now. we'll fill a few more tires in the outer wing walls before we can finish the berm but that can wait until the house is enclosed. We already did the 2"X12" bond beam on top of the wall and the berm on the back side is half done. We also filled the cavities on that side of the wall with dirt and held it in place with pieces of billboard so everything is ready when the mechanical shovel comes back after the roof is done. At the same time we'll get it to do the final grading. Right now, we're stuck because the trusses are sitting in front of the house and that prevents us from fixing the slope on that side. It'll be real nice to have water flowing away from our walls!
Next, we start on the standing logs that will support the roof trusses. Unfortunately, our chain saw is at the repair shop so we're delayed for a few days. In the meantime, we're preparing a space next to the container where we'll be able to work out of the sun and rain. That's where we'll work on the tongue-and-groove for the ceiling boards
Cyrille has only a few days left to his sejourn with us, he's going back to France on Monday. We'll miss dearly that very nice young man and such an ENORMOUS help. I hope he'll forget the lousy weather and the mosquitoes and remember his stay in Quebec as a pleasant one.
Steve, ALain's cousin who bought the land with us, camped for a couple of days with his family and a couple of friends. It was lively with 4 kids and 3 dogs running around, Tara was all sad to see them go. Steve and Geny should be back to explore and place markers on their property, to figure out where they'd like to build their house. Who knows, there may be another earthship in Chertsey some day!
The weatherman says we'll get sunshine and heat over the week-end. That would be perfect for a mud party. Anyone interested? Just write us an e-mail, we'll send you the directions.
